Crime Lines: Houseguests send host to the hospital

Couple stabbed man several times in the back and head before stealing his car and several items


VISALIA – A couple of invited houseguests nearly killed their host last week after stabbing him several times.

Just after 5 a.m. on Sept. 2, officers responded to the 200 block of E. Tulare Ave. regarding a robbery. The male victim told officers that he had invited a female subject, later identified as 41-year-old Sarah Garcia, to his house. While she was there, Garcia invited another unknown subject to the residence who was later identified as 34-year-old Rudy Esquivel.

Once together, Garcia and Esquivel assaulted the victim, stabbing him multiple times in the back and head. The victim was able to flee while Garcia and Esquivel proceeded to steal several items along with the victim’s vehicle.

At 5:45 p.m. on Sept. 5, officers from the Special Enforcement Unit conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle matching the description of the stolen car in the area of Mooney Boulevard and Walnut Avenue. The property stolen from the residence was also located in the vehicle. Esquivel and Garcia were arrested without incident. They were booked for robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, vehicle theft, and burglary. The victim has since been released from the hospital.

Monday, Sept. 10

At 1:15 a.m. at the 7-Eleven at Tulare and Mooney, officers responded to a report of a robbery. Witnesses told officer an unidentified suspect entered the store armed with a handgun and demanded money from the clerk. The suspect fled the store on foot with an undetermined amount of cash and was not located. No one was injured.
