Shopping center coming to Mooney
visalia – While news of nationwide retail closures and chain contractions have hit many mid-sized cities hard in the last year, Visalia is not only holing onto its retailers but is adding space for new ones.
Devon Jones, economic development manager for Visalia, said the City received a site plan on July 12 for a new shopping center at the corner of Visalia Parkway and Mooney Boulevard just south of Target. Submitted by Foothill Partners Real Estate and Urban Economics, Jones said it is not known which tenants will be located in the new shopping center called Commons and Visalia Parkway.
The new center would be anchored by three major retailers of 20,000 to 30,000 square feet. Those would be surrounded by three smaller retail buildings, a space for an automotive service location as well as three drive-thru restaurants. There will be 727 parking spaces in the retail shopping center.
Visalia was nearly untouched in the recent rash of retailer closures across the country. In the last year, it was announced that Visalia will retain Macy’s, JC Penney, Sears and K-mart. The City also made the final list for a Nordstrom fulfillment center in the Central Valley.
