Elderly pedestrian dies from injuries
An elderly Visalia woman died last week from injuries suffered after being hit by a car last month. Betty Alonzo Minatta, 79, of Visalia was airlifted to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno where she remained in critical condition until she was pronounced dead on July 28. Minatta was struck by a 2017 red Volkswagen Jetta at about 6 p.m. on July 25 in the intersection of Locus Street and Oak Avenue. The car was traveling southbound on Locust when it struck the pedestrian while she was crossing Locus in a westerly direction.
The driver of the Jetta, identified as 56-year-old Francisco Diaz, was not injured and it does not appear that drugs or alcohol were a factor, according to a statement by the Visalia Police Department. The investigation into the cause of this collision is ongoing by the Visalia PD Traffic Unit.
