visalia – Police are still unsure what caused a cyclist to drift into the trailer of a passing truck last week.
The accident happened just after 9 a.m. on April 4 on Santa Fe Street just north of Monte Vista Avenue when a cyclist heading northbound drifted into the path of a travel trailer being hauled by a 1997 Dodge pickup.
“An independent witness said the bicycle drifted to the left and impacted the trailer,” said Sgt. Damon Maurice with the Visalia Police Department.
Maurice said the impact knocked the cyclist, identified as 92-year-old Robert Seymour, off the bicycle and into the ground. Seymour was transported to Kaweah Delta Medical Center where he was later died from his injuries.
The driver of the Dodge, identified as 91-year-old John Havekost, was not injured in the collision. Sgt. Maurice said the investigation into the cause of this collision is continuing and being handled by the Visalia Police Traffic Unit but the collision is being treated as an accident.
“I don’t anticipate any charges being filed in this case,” Sgt. Maurice said.
