visalia – The men and women of Tulare County Sheriff’s Department can be seen serving their communities on a constant basis. But what many residents don’t often get the opportunity to see is the leader of the department, Mike Boudreaux, sink a three pointer.

On Saturday, March 5 the Tulare County “Road Dawgz”—which includes Law Enforcement and Fire Department—took on the Basketball Beauties at El Diamante High School in order to raise money for the Tulare County Peace Officer’s Memorial fund. The memorial stands in honor of fallen officers killed in the line of duty.

Tulare County Sheriff Mike Boudreaux shared the importance of this fundraiser, “This memorial holds multiple names of officers who have lost their lives for Tulare County,” Boudreaux went on to highlight the two most recent members of the department who lost their lives in the line of duty. Sheriff’s pilot James Chavez and Deputy Scott Ballantyne. Were killed on Feb. 10 when Sheriff One crashed near Lake Success just after 4 p.m.

“The department is still grieving but we are doing what both officers would have wanted, we are moving on,” said Boudreaux.

Despite the seriousness of the cause, officers and Beauties had a great time trash talking one another at the pre-game press conference held on Friday, March 4. “We are vertically challenged and not great at the basketball game,” said Boudreaux in reference to himself and teammate, Board of Supervisor, Pete Vander Poel.

Regardless of his stature, Vander Poel warned that his jersey number was 32, much like that of famed Basketball hero Shaquille O’Neil, “I’m just warning you Beauties!” He went on to express his gratitude for being invited to participate, “It’s not very often that I’m given the opportunity to do something like this.”

Tami Brawner was just one of the Beauties represented at Friday’s press conference. Brawner is the 10th female to play for the Harlem Globe Trotters. Brawner shared that she and the Beauties participate in events such as these. “This game does have a bigger purpose to it.” She went on to say, “We are looking to have a great time and even though we respect the cause, officers, you’re going down!”

“Harold (Sergeant Liles) knows how I feel about this cause. Officers risk their lives everyday for us. It’s an honor to be here.” said M.C. for the event, Delpha “DB” Baxter.

Members of The Hollywood Hoops “Basketball Beauties” are a street ball entertainment team in the style of play featured at the Harlem Globe Trotter’s games. The visiting team consists of former Harlem Globe Trotters players and other elite basketball players affiliated with big names such as Kobe Bryant and Lebron James.

Although the Road Dawgs put up a fight the Basketball Beauties ultimately defeated the Road Dawgz, 74-59.
