The Rangers are the number one seed in Division II and are off to a strong start in the playoffs

VISALIA – After going undefeated in the regular season, the Rangers volleyball team carried that momentum into a strong first win of the playoffs.
Each set followed a similar formula of the Rangers going up early and then the defense making it difficult for the Badger offense. Yosemite didn’t go down easy in the first set as Redwood won 25-20. But in the second set, the Ranger defense was stifling. They only allowed 12 points in the victory. Junior Andrea Jauregui was all over the court and seemed to have a hand in nearly every play. She ended with 32 of her team’s 59 digs.
“Everything we’ve been working so hard to accomplish all season, just worked,” said Ranger head coach Alana Montgomery.
She deems it important for her team to be mentally and physically tough if they want to have success in the playoffs.
“We must keep running a quick attack and we have to keep our errors down,” she said.
Redwood moved on to another home playoff matchup on Tuesday, Nov. 5 (after press time) against Mt. Whitney. Although the Rangers are 2-0 this season against the Pioneers, they are aware that a third victory won’t be an easy task. In the last game of the regular season, the Pioneers gave Redwood one of only six set losses all year. Last season, Mt. Whitney swept the Rangers.
