Exeter Monarchs of the Week

Each week, Exeter Union High School coaches will nominate outstanding players in each sport. These players will be featured here in the newspaper as well as at Kirkman’s VIP Pizza. This week’s players are listed below.

Sports Extra

Softball: Cardinals drop two in ESL this past week

Lindsay lost back-to-back East Sequoia League games last week to the Woodlake Tigers, 22-14, and at the Sierra Pacific Golden Bears, 12-1. In the loss to Sierra Pacific, Lindsay scored in the top of the fifth inning, but it wasn’t enough for the game to be called in the same frame. Lindsay took on Woodlake again in a tournament contest on Tuesday, April 16. Results were reached after press time. Lindsay returns to competition on April 25, at home against the Granite Hills Grizzlies.

Softball: Blazers struggle to ignite at Tulare Tournament

Golden West went winless on the first day of the Tulare Tournament over the weekend. They opened with a 7-3 loss to the Coalinga Horned Toads. Then lost to host Tulare Union and the Tribe 5-2.

Baseball: Aztecs open Robinson Tournament with a loss

Farmersville began the annual Ron Robinson Baseball Tournament with a 12-2 loss to the Riverdale Cowboys on Saturday. Farmersville scored a run in the top of the fifth inning, pulling them within one of the lead 3-2. That was before Riverdale scored nine runs in the bottom half of the same inning. Farmersville then defeated Kern Valley 6-3 on Monday. Farmersville continued play at the tournament on Tuesday, April 16, against the Sierra Chieftains. Results were reached after press time. Today, they play their final game against an opponent, and time to be announced later.

Volleyball: EUHS to host camp

The 4th annual Train Like a Monarch camp is scheduled for June 10-13 at Exeter Union High School’s Smith Gym. The camp is open to any and all students who will be entering the third to ninth grades for the 2019-2020 school year. Grades 3 to 6 will train from 9 to 11 a.m., and grades 7 to 9 will train from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. For any questions, contact head coach Samantha Hilvers at slhilvers@gmail.com.

Fundraiser: Alumni Football serves dinner to raise funds

The Exeter Alumni Football organization is having their fourth annual dinner on Saturday, April 27, at the Exeter Memorial Building at 6 p.m. Tickets are $30 per person. For more information, contact Bobby Martinez at 972-5583.
