The Rawhide drop their first series of the season to Rancho Cucamonga

The Rawhide drop the first of three series against the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes. The Rawhide had the lead going into the top of the 9th. West Tunnell was on the mound for the Rawhide and walked Marcus Chiu, who would score after three wild pitches to tie up the game. Visalia was unable to score in the bottom of the ninth, sending the game into extra innings. Tunnell would receive the blown save.
In the top of the 10th, Jeter Downs led off with a base hit to right field moving Jaren Kendall, who was place on second to start the inning due to the extra inning rule, to third base. Connor Wong drew a walk to make the bases loaded with nobody out. Donovan Casey hit into a fielder’s choice at short stop, allowing Kendall to score and Downs to move to third. Marcus Chiu singled to right, scoring Downs to make the score 4-2. The scoring would continue as Carlos Rincon singled to right. Brandon Montgomery flied out to centerfield with runners on first and second. Chiu tagged on the fly out and scored off an error by Jake McCarthy, who lost the ball on the transfer after the flyout. The final two runs of the 10th inning would score off a two-run blast by Devin Mann to make the score 8-2 entering the bottom of the 10th.
The Rawhide would score two runs in the bottom of the 10th off a ground out by Yoel Yanqui and a single by Renae Martinez. With two outs and bases loaded, Anfernee Grier struck out to end the game. Final score was 8-4 Quakes on top of the Rawhide.
The losing pitcher for the Rawhide is Cole Bartlett who pitched one and one-third inning. He gave up six hits and five earned runs with one walk and two strikeouts. The winning pitcher for the Quakes is Ryan Moseley who pitched one and two-thirds innings giving up three hits and one earned run. Sheffield received his second save of the season by pitching one-third of an inning not allowing any hits or runs.
The Rawhide travel to San Jose for a four-game series before traveling to Modesto for a three-game series. The next home game for Visalia is Thursday April 18th.
