Each week, Exeter Union High School coaches will nominate outstanding players in each sport. These players will be featured here in the newspaper as well as at Kirkman’s VIP Pizza. This week’s players are listed below.

Volleyball

Tigers eliminated from postseason

Woodlake had a monumental task on Thursday, Oct. 25, when they opened up the Division III playoffs against the top-seeded Yosemite Badgers—a task the Tigers were not able to overcome as they lost in three sets (7-25, 11-25, 12-25). Jocelyn Sanchez finished the season with 95 kills according to Maxpreps.com.

Youth Basketball

Registration opens for basketball league

The Exeter Parks and Recreation Department is currently accepting registration for the 2019 youth basketball season. All boys and girls in kindergarten to eighth grade are encouraged to join. Players will learn the basic skills of the sport as well as the importance of team play and good sportsmanship. League play is tentatively set to begin on Saturday, Jan. 12. Teams will have one practice a week will be set up by the coach. Registration fee is $50 if paid by Friday, Nov. 16. The fee will increase to $60 after that date. If your player wishes to attend a basketball camp it is $65 if paid by the same date and increases to $75 afterwards. The department will next be accepting registration forms at Straw Hat Pizza (1111 W. Visalia Rd.) on Nov. 5, 6, 13 and 14.

Fundraiser Dinner

Exeter pitches for funds

The Exeter Baseball Boosters will be having a dinner, auction and dance on Saturday, Nov. 3, at the Exeter Memorial Building, 324 N. Kaweah Ave. in Exeter. Doors open at 5 p.m. with dinner being served at 6:30. There will be a live and silent auction with items ranging from vacation packages, to autographed items, and much more. The booster will also be honoring Lonnie Barnett. Tickets for singles are $75, couples are $140, and table (8 persons) is $550.
