Exeter Monarchs of the Week

Each week, Exeter Union High School coaches will nominate outstanding players in each sport. These players will be featured here in the newspaper as well as at Kirkman’s VIP Pizza. This week’s players are listed below.

VOLLEYBALL
Monarchs fall 3-0 to Golden Eagles
It was a much tighter matchup than in 2017, but Exeter still feel victim to the sweep 3-0 (25-27, 24-26, 25-16) loss to Clovis West. In Exeter’s first matchup against a D-I opponent the first two sets were taken to extra points. Corinne Acosta led the Monarchs with 13 kills. Teagan Bryant followed her with 10 kills. Julia Nelsen had the lone block for Exeter. The Monarchs faced the Monache Marauders at home last Tuesday night. Final happened after press time.

GORLS TENNIS
Monarchs cage Tigers 7-2
The Monarchs defeated the Tigers on the hard court last Thursday by a score of 7-2. Singles: Sierra Bolanos def. Osiris Zepeda-Castro 8-3. Franki Velasquez def. Nancy Frausto 8-3. Grace Miculian def. Val Orozco 8-3. Caitlynn Wendt def. Gizelle Castillo 8-2. Nicole Rocha def. Marcella Arambula 8-2. Kaitlynn Brackett def. Savanna Castaneda 8-4. Doubles: Zepeda-Castro and Velasquez def. Frausto and Orozco 8-1. Bolanos and Castillo def. Miculian and Wendt 8-3. Tillie Wendt and Taylor Hernandez def. Victoria Cisneros and Paola Espinoza 8-2.

VOLLEYBALL
Tigers ground Cardinals 3-1
Woodlake rebounded from their loss to Exeter in their home opener and defeated Orosi 3-1 (25-18, 25-16, 19-25, 25-22). The Tigers took on the Dinuba Emperors at home last Tuesday. Final of that game happened after press time. Tonight Woodlake remains at home to face the Tranquility Tigers at 6:30 p.m.

VOLLEYBALL
Spartans spear Redcats
Strathmore traveled to Fowler last Thursday and came back with a 3-1 (25-17, 26-24, 22-25, 25-16) win. Thursday night they Strathmore returns home to face inner district rival the Monache Marauders at 6:30 p.m.

CORN HOLE
Visalia to host tourney and social
The Visalia Parks and Recreation Department is hosting a corn hole tournament from 5:30 to 10 p.m. on Sept. 14 at Garden Street Plaza, 300 E. Main St. in Visalia. Teams are $20 to enter and must consist of two players age 16 or older. Visit  visalia.city for more information.

FUNDRAISER
Exeter Football Boosters Dinner
The Exeter Football Boosters organization is hosting their annual fundraiser dinner on Aug. 25 at the Exeter Memorial Building and is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
