Foothill track athletes come up short on second day of state competition

Golden West’s Zach Glick has best finish of foothills athletes at state championship meet

FRESNO– The foothills area once again sent four track and field athletes to the 2018 CIF State Track and Field Championship at Buchanan High School last weekend, June 1–2. For three it was their last high school track meets of their careers. Against the toughest competition Zach Glick had the best result. Competing in the long jump he took fifteenth with a distance of 22 feet, 2 inches.

For the second year in a row Strathmore’s Madison Bower competed in the 300-meter hurdles. Unfortunately, she did not make it to the finals like she had hoped. She finished two places worse than last year’s meet at seventh clocking 44.97 seconds.

Both of Lindsay’s athletes placed outside the teens. Marlena Gutierrez in her first ever state championship threw a distance of 37 feet, 4.75 inches in the shot put. The distance put her in 25th place. McKaylie Caesar finished 25th in the 1,600-meter run as well with a time of 5:11.09. Caesar is the only athlete who will return next year with another shot to make it to the finals.
