Memorable second half for local high school sports teams

tulare county – The second half of the school year saw many teams return as league and Valley Champions. Whether they were defending their titles or attempting to capture their first in a long time, five athletes competed in State Championship Tournaments, two competed at Regional’s and another five student athletes signed letters of intent, including one to a D-I school.


January 7 – Strathmore’s Spartans long snapper traveled to San Antonio, Texas on to play in the Football University (FBU) All-American Bowl.

Jan. 10 – Exeter’s outside hitter Olivia Harden named to Maxpreps.com’s D-II all-state volleyball team.


February 1 – Strathmore’s Ally Holloway and Golden West’s Bryson Johnson signed letters of intent. Holloway signed to play soccer at Fort Lewis College. Johnson signed to play football at Greenville College.

February 8 – The Lindsay Cardinals boy’s soccer team captured their sixth straight East Sequoia League title after defeating the Woodlake Tigers 4-1.

February 10 – Golden West’s Jason Pascua became the fifth Blazer basketball player to eclipse 1,000 career points.

February 10 – The Golden West’s boys soccer team captured a share of the West Yosemite League Title, with El Diamante, after defeating the Hanford Bullpups 6-0.

February 14 – The Strathmore Spartans girl’s basketball team captured a share of the East Sequoia League Title, with the Sierra Pacific Golden Bears, after defeating the Lindsay Cardinals 58-47.

February 24 – The Strathmore Spartans girl’s soccer team lost in the D-IV Valley Championship to the Kingsburg Vikings 3-2 (OT).

February 24 – Golden West’s Jackie Flores competed at the Girls Wrestling State Championships in Visalia.

February 28 – The Lindsay Cardinals and Golden West Trailblazers boys soccer teams won Valley Championships. Lindsay defeated Arvin 3-1 for the D-IV title. Golden West defeated Edison 3-2 (OT) for the D-II title.


March 4 – The Strathmore Spartan girl’s basketball team lost to the Sierra Pacific Golden Bears 60-46 in the D-IV Championship at Selland Arena.


April 18 – Exeter’s Drake Jones signed a letter of intent to play golf at Cal Lutheran.

April 27 – Exeter’s Andrea Anez signed a D-I letter of intent to University of California Santa Barbara for Cross Country and Track.

April 27 – The Lindsay Cardinals softball team captured their first East Sequoia League title since 2014 with a 11-4 win over the Granite Hills Grizzlies.


May 8 – The Strathmore boys golf team successfully defended their D-III title with a score of 429 at Valley Oak Golf Course.

May 10 – Lindsay’s McKaylie Caesar, Strathmore’s Madison Bower, and Exeter’s Josh Outten and Andrea Anez win individual titles at the D-II Track and Field Championships.

May 25 – Exeter’s Drake Jones and Strathmore’s Jeeven Larson competed in the Southern California Regional Golf Tournament. Jones shot a three over par, 75. Larson shot a twelve over par, 84.

May 31 – Strathmore’s Garrett Wilson signed a letter of intent to play water polo for Chapman University.


June 2-3 – Golden West’s Ian Kelly and Zach Glick, Exeter’s Josh Outten and Strathmore’s Madison Bower competed in their respected events during the CIF Track and Field State Championships at Buchanan’s Veterans Memorial Stadium. Outten made the finals in the high jump.
