Tigers sweep golden bears to stay in title hunt

The Woodlake Tigers picked up two big victories last week as the Tigers swept the Sierra Pacific Golden Bears to stay within one game of first place Corcoran with one week left to play in league play.

On April 30 the Tigers traveled to Hanford to take on Sierra Pacific. The Tigers would battle their way to a 6-4 victory. At the plate the Tigers were led by sophomore Zach Fesperman. Fesperman went 2 for 4 with two runs batted in. Also sophomore Eddie Pena contributed by going 1 for 2 with a triple and a RBI.

Fesperman not only got the job done at the plate but he also pitched a complete game. Fesperman would strike out seven Golden Bears while only walking just one batter.

In the second game of the week that was played on May 2 in Woodlake it was the underclassman once again getting the job done as the Tigers defeat the Golden Bears 12-2.

Fesperman, who has been a Golden Bear killer so far this season had another big game on May 2. Fesperman went 2 for 4 with a double and two runs batted in. Another Bear kill was Pena, as Pena went 2 for 4 with a double and a RBI. Junior Cade Headrick also had a good day against the Golden Bears as Headrick went 2 for 4 with a double and two RBI’s.

The Tigers young pitching staff took control of the game early on as Pena went six innings and striking out eight Golden Bears to pick up the victory for the Tigers.

Woodlake improves to 13-9 overall on the season and are now 10-3 in East Sequoia League play just one game behind Corcoran who is in first place in the ESL.

The Tigers will wrap up their season this week as the Tigers look to continue being bear kills as Woodlake takes on the Grizzlies from Granite Hills.

The Tigers could find themselves in first place but they will need the help of Sierra Pacific as the Golden Bears start a two game series against first place Corcoran to wrap up their season.
