Exeter native Joseph Hugh Botkin died unexpectedly near his home in San Diego on July 24, 2017. Joe was born to James “Jim” and Juanita Botkin on June 12, 1948 in Exeter, Calif. After graduating as valedictorian from Exeter High School’s Class of 1966, he attended USC and then enlisted in the U.S. Navy.
Joe married Patsy O’Halloran on July 25, 1981. During his time in San Diego, Joe devoted much of his time to good works including The Marine Family Christmas Program, San Diego Nice Guys, Irish Congress of Southern Caliofnria and the St. Patrick’s Day Parade. He enjoyed entertaining, family, friends, fishing and his culinary expertise was legendary.
He is survived by his wife, Patsy of San Diego; daughter, Michelle of San Diego; his mother, Juanita Botkin of Dinuba, Calif.; brothers David Botkin (Becky) of Reedley, Calif. and Steven Botkin (Kathy) of Corona, Calif.; his sister, Linda Botkin Rotan of Reedley, Calif.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father Jim Botkin and his brother Larry Botkin.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Aug. 19 at The Admiral Baker Club House in San Diego. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to The San Diego Nice Guys in support of The Marine Family Christmas Fund, 5575 Sandia Place, San Diego, CA 92124. The Botkin family will miss “The Oldest and Prettiest.”
