Obituary: John Andres Sanchez
Graveside services for John Andres Sanchez of Lindsay were held on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at the Lindsay-Strathmore Cemetery. Military honors were offered by the California State Honor Guard. John passed away on April 5, 2017 at the age of 94.
He was born Nov. 30, 1922 in Branson, Colo. to Jose and Desenia Sanchez. John served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II and even taught at the U.S Fleet Anti-Submarine Warfare Training Center in San Diego. After leaving the U.S. Navy he came to the Lindsay area where he earned an associates degree from the College of the Sequoias.
He had a long life and a long civil service career serving as a police officer in Lindsay and then in San Diego before coming back to the San Joaquin Valley. He also worked at the Naval Electronic Systems Engineering Center in San Diego, as a truant officer in the Lindsay Unified School District and then finally retired from the California Conservation Corps.
John enjoyed woodworking watching TV, going to the casino, fishing, going out to eat, dancing and going to the gym at the McDermont Field House. He also enjoyed watching his grandsons play basketball.
John was preceded in death by his son Bernard Sanchez and by all his siblings. He is survived by his wife Eloisa Sanchez of Lindsay; his daughter Patricia Sanchez of Lindsay; sons Terry W. Sanchez of San Diego, Joe Sanchez of Lindsay, and Mario Sanchez of Visalia; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren as well as other relatives and friends. All arrangements under the direction of Webb Sanders Funeral Home.
