Marcus Alan Noel
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 16, at Webb Sanders Funeral Home in Lindsay, for Marcus Alan Noel. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m., followed by a brief graveside service at Lindsay-Strathmore Cemetery.
Marcus Noel lived in the Lindsay/Strathmore area all of his life. Marcus was beginning his 100th year. He was born Oct. 1, 1913, in the Prairie Center area and went to school there until the family moved west of Lindsay. Marcus attended Jefferson School and then graduated from Lindsay High School with the class of 1932. Marcus was a hard worker all of his life. For example, during the depression, when he was 17, Marcus spent an entire summer hard at work. At the end of that summer, half of his wages went to his older brother – for schooling – and the rest was used to feed the team of mules.
Marcus and his older brother Cody married two Rogers sisters (Pauline and Irene) from Corcoran and while the two brothers farmed together, the sisters shared responsibilities in raising the children. Marcus farmed three miles west of Lindsay and was a member of the Lindmore Irrigation District Board of Directors. Marcus and Pauline had three daughters. Eleven years after Pauline’s death, Marcus married Ethel Rasey (formerly Bush). Marcus became a widower again and moved into Valley Christian Community, an apartment complex sponsored by Lindsay Christian Church, where he was a member for many years. Lately he has enjoyed lunches at the Lindsay Senior Center.
Marcus died on Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013, at his home in Lindsay after a short illness.
Marcus is survived by his three daughters, Marline Koch of Azalea, Ore.; Janice Owen of Lindsay; and Laura Yost of San Jose; five grandchildren, Brian Koch, Marcus Koch, Jeanne Cole, Joseph Yost and Juan Owen; four great-grandchildren, Natalie Koch, Andrew Koch, Lorelai Cole and Bryce Koch; and many Noel, Rogers and Bush family descendants.
