Shirley Irene Dotzler

Shirley Dotzler of Visalia, Calif. passed away peacefully in her sleep on June 28, 2018 at the age of 82. Shirley was born Jan. 7, 1936 in Visalia and was the oldest child of William “Leland” and Geraldine Edwards. She was a lifelong Tulare County resident and raised in the Venice Hills area. During her youth, Shirley was active in 4H and attended Venice School. Shirley graduated from Exeter Union High School and went on to graduate from the Highland School of Nursing in 1955.  Shirley was very passionate with her nursing career and was a Registered Nurse for 46 years before retiring in 2001 from the Visalia Medical Clinic.   

In 1971, Shirley married her husband, Godfrey “Dutch” Dotzler, and they established a home in Visalia. Shirley was a devoted Christian and a member of the Calvary Chapel Church. Shirley was an avid collector of antiques. She and Dutch bred and raised singing canaries for many years, specifically red factor canaries. Shirley loved spending time with her family and grandchildren. Shirley was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents Leland and Geraldine Edwards of Exeter. She is survived by her husband, Godfrey “Dutch” Dotzler of Visalia; brother, Roger Edwards of Exeter; sister, Cheryl West of Visalia; three sons, Mike, Mitch and Mark Knox all of Visalia; three step-children, Cynthia Wilson of Colorado Springs, Colo., Linda Rose of Eugene, Ore., and Jeffery Dotzler of Greer, S.C. in addition to several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Services for Shirley will be held at the Visalia District Cemetery at 10 a.m. on Thursday July 5, 2018.
