Obituary: DeeAnn B. Jehning

DeeAnn B. Erwin Jehning

DeeAnn B. Erwin Jehning, 51, of Cairns Corner (Lindsay, Calif.), passed away on Sept. 10, 2017 at home surrounded by family and friends after a two and a half year battle with cancer. DeeAnn was born Aug. 13, 1966 in Exeter to Samuel and Dorothy Erwin. In 1971, the family moved to the Chico-Red Bluff area. DeeAnn attended Los Molinos High School, where she excelled at sports and academics and was senior class president and valedictorian. She went on to attend Stanford University, graduating in 1989 with a degree in linguistics.

At Stanford, she played on the women’s rugby team. After college, DeeAnn worked the field of library science. While living in Mountain View, California she met and married her husband Kurt on August 5, 2000.

In July 2012, DeeAnn and Kurt moved back to the Exeter area and established their business, Sequoia Door. DeAnn as beloved by all and was known for her quick wit, sense of humor and fierce loyalty to her family and friends. A lover of horror movies, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and punk rock, she was renowned for her thoughtful gift-giving, always finding the most practical sentimental or funny present for any occasion. She worked tirelessly caring for animals in need through her volunteer work with Central Valley Rescue Railroad, fostering several dogs and adopting one, Penny, and was the guardian to a brood of wonderful and eccentric cats – Tommy (2003-2013), Pip (2003-2017), Matt, Charlie, Oscar and Riley, who will dearly miss their mom.

DeeAnn is survived by her husband Kurt Jehning (Cairns Corner, mother Dorothy (Visalia), brothers Mike (La Jolla) and Richard (Granite Bay) Erwin and their spouses Patti Erwin and Maya Tagore-Erwin, nieces Eimi Tagore-Erwin (Stockholm, Sweden), Angie Metts (El Cajon),, Colleen LaRocque (Santee) and nephews Nikhil Tagore-Erwin (Granite Bay) and Navin Tagore-Erwin (Honolulu, Hawaii).

A memorial Service will be held on Friday, September 22nd, at 2:00 pm at the Exeter District Cemetery, 719 E. Marinette Avenue in Exeter, California.  All are welcome. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Central Valley Rescue Railroad, cvrr@cvrr.us, to honor the work of DeeAnn and the rest of the wonderful CVRR volunteers.
