Tulare County OKs no parking zones for pedestrian safety near Strathmore High, Pixley Middle School

TULARE COUNTY – Tulare County continued its effort to make school zones in rural communities safer for kids walking to school.

At its Aug. 13 meeting, the Tulare County Board of Supervisors approved two “no parking” zones on streets near schools in Strathmore and Pixley. Both locations have already been approved for curb, gutter, sidewalk and ADA compliant ramp improvements.

The first is located Avenue 196 just west of Road 228 in Strathmore. The no parking signs and 200 feet of red curbing will be near the southwest corner of the intersection.

The second location is on Court Avenue (Avenue 100) and Spani Way in Pixley. The no parking signs and 62 feet of red curbing on Court, which students use to walk to both the Pixley Middle School and Pixley Elementary School. Tulare County Resource Management Agency (RMA) recently improved the intersection by designating bike lanes in front of the middle and elementary schools. After the installation of the pavement striping on Court Avenue, it was determined the roadway wasn’t wide enough to accommodate both through traffic and curbside parking on the southwest corner on Court Street at Spani Way.
