Central Valley Community Foundation is offering $5,000 grants to 10 filmmakers to capture inspiring people and places of the Valley

FRESNO – The Central Valley Community Foundation (CVCF) is now accepting applications for its third annual The Big Tell film competition featuring stories of California’s Central Valley.

CVCF is awarding 10 grants of $5,000 to professional, amateur, and student filmmakers to produce a five-minute mini-documentary that highlights the innovative and inspiring people and places of the Central Valley. CVCF is looking for applications from filmmakers of all skill levels and with subjects from all six counties within CVCF’s service area including: Merced, Mariposa, Madera, Fresno, Tulare and Kings.

Winning filmmakers will be mentored by Emmy-nominated filmmaker Sascha Rice. She will provide one-on-one support to each filmmaker including development of storylines, technical assistance, and guidance on how to get their films to mainstream production.

CVCF has also partnered with Community Media Access Collaborative (CMAC) to offer access to training and tools including production studios, private editing suites, meeting rooms, classroom space, and a computer lab, along with a variety of portable production gear.

A Q&A session will be held at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, May 8 at CMAC, 5260 N. Palm Ave. #122 in Fresno.

Applications, and the 2017 and 2018 films, are available at www.TheBigTell.org and are due on Friday, June 7, 2019. The winning films will debut at The Big Tell Showcase on Friday, Oct. 25, 2019 at the Tower Theatre.
