Board of Supervisors to meet in Strathmore April 2

Supervisors will give an update on flood control projects weeks after 11 homes flooded in the rural town

@TheSunGazette

STRATHMORE – Strathmore residents interested in learning how the county will prevent future flooding along Strathmore Creek won’t have to leave town to find out.

On April 2, the Tulare County Board of Supervisors will hold their first night meeting of the year at 6:30 p.m. at the Strathmore Memorial Building, located at 23100 Avenue 196 in Strathmore. At the meeting, the Supervisors will receive an update from the Tulare County Resource Management Agency regarding flood control projects.

Eleven homes were evacuated in Strathmore due to flooding on March 8 when a plugged undershoot failed to redirect water from a natural creek to a nearby holding pond.

Other highlights on the agenda for next week’s meeting include a presentation from the Tulare County Fire Department on the remodel project for Fire Station 1, and a presentation proclaiming April 1-7 as Health Tulare County week.

The Strathmore meeting is the first of four night meetings scheduled this year to bring local county business to rural residents as the supervisors hold their regularly scheduled meetings during the evening. Board of Supervisors meetings are usually held at 9 a.m. on Tuesday in the Board Chambers, located at 2800 W. Burrel Ave. in Visalia.

“We want to take our meetings to the residents and specifically to our rural communities throughout the County,” shared Board Chairman and Strathmore resident Kuyler Crocker. “I hope residents will join us and attend these night meetings to express their concerns or learn more about Tulare County government.”

The night meetings were instituted by Supervisor Pete Vander Poel in 2013 to “bring the County and its various departments to Tulare County residents.” Each night meeting is held at 6:30 p.m. in a different Supervisorial District throughout the year.
