Pioneers crush Blazers 77-46
In both Mt. Whitney’s and Golden West’s return to West Yosemite League opener on Thursday, Jan. 3, it was the Pioneers who came out on top 77-46. This is the second year in a row the Trailblazers have lost to the Pioneers in their WYL opener. Tonight, the Blazers host the Redwood Rangers at 7:30 p.m.

Blazers compete in full week of games
Golden West played five games over the course of three days last week. It ended on Saturday, Jan. 5, with a 2-1 win over the Mt. Whitney Pioneers in a final of a weekend tournament. This was the Trailblazers’ second win over the Pioneers in the stretch. Golden West began the string of games with a 3-1 win in West Yosemite League play. Golden West defeated the Sierra Pacific Golden Bears 1-0 on the first day of the tournament. The Blazers tied the Reedley Pirates 2-2 on Friday. They then lost 6-5 in a shootout to the Mission Oak Hawks on Saturday.

Wilkinson lights up Cavaliers
Exeter’s Jaycie Wilkinson has scored in double digits in seven of the Monarchs’ last eight games. That includes a 62-30 win over the Central Valley Christian Cavaliers on Friday, Jan. 4. Wilkinson scored 19 points. It’s her third highest total of the season. On Tuesday night, Exeter traveled to play the Selma Bears. Results were reached after press time. On Thursday, Jan. 10, Exeter hosts the Hanford West Huskies at 7:30 p.m.

Tigers topple Titans 5-1
Woodlake began the new year with a solid 5-1 win over the defending Division VI Valley champs, the Orange Cove Titans, on Friday, Jan. 4. Woodlake broke the 1-1 halftime tie with four goals in the second half. Oscar Trujillo and Dael Vega both ended the game with two goals. Adan Aguilera scored a goal as well. On Thursday, Jan. 10, Woodlake travels to Porterville to play the Granite Hills Grizzlies at 6 p.m.

Monarchs cannot keep up with Cavaliers
Exeter faced the toughest team in the Central Sequoia League on Friday, Jan. 4, the Central Valley Christian Cavaliers. Exeter took the lead into halftime, but fell behind and lost 55-44. Blake Crookshanks led the Monarchs with 15 points and 14 rebounds. Exeter hosted the Selma Bears on Tuesday, Jan. 8. Results were reached after press time. On Thursday, Jan. 10, Exeter travels to face the Hanford West Huskies at 7:30 p.m.
