TULARE COUNTY – Hollywood has the Oscars. Television has the Emmys. Music has the Grammys. Broadway has the Tonys. The Internet has the Webbys. And just as you are gearing up to find out which of your favorite stars of the silver and small screen will be counted among the best, local cities will be celebrating the stars of your local community, economy and government.
At the beginning of every year, Lindsay, Exeter and Woodlake hold their annual award banquets honoring people who honor their communities by giving back.
Lindsay’s leaders are the first to walk the red carpet each year.
The Lindsay Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual Awards Banquet at on Saturday, Feb. 2 at the Lindsay Veterans Memorial Building, located at 775 N. Elmwood Ave. in Lindsay. The annual awards dinner was established to recognize significant contributions made by the Lindsay community members and businesses. Awards will be presented to individuals whom have exemplified the spirit of Lindsay. Awards include Man of the Year, Woman of the Year, Youth of the Year, Presidents Award, Employee of the Year, New Business of the Year, Organization of the Year, and Business of the Year.
The Lindsay Chamber is still taking nominations through today, Jan. 2. Nominations can be sent to the chamber by e-mailing to firstname.lastname@example.org or by faxing 559-562-5219 or mailing to P.O. Box 989, Lindsay, CA 93247. Tickets are $35 per person or $280 for a table of eight.
Nominations for the Exeter Chamber of Commerce’s annual awards are due on Wedensday, Jan. 9. Nomination forms are available at the Exeter Chamber’s office, located at 101 W. Pine St. in Exeter, and on the web site www.exeterchamber.com.
The Exeter Chamber is seeking nominations for the following awards: Man of the Year, Woman of the Year, Business of the Year, Beautification Award and the Heritage Award.
All of the awards will be presented at the 92nd Annual Banquet beginning at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 23 at the Exeter Veterans Memorial Building, located at 324 N. Kaweah Ave. in Exeter. After Exeter is Woodlake’s turn at the podium. Nominations for the 2018 Woodlake Awards must be turned in by Jan. 31 in person or by mail to Woodlake City Hall, 350 N. Valencia Blvd., Woodlake, CA 93286 or by email to WoodlakeAwards@gmail.com.
In Woodlake, the awards are not selected solely by the Chamber of Commerce but a coalition of representatives from the following organizations: City of Woodlake, Woodlake Police, Chamber of Commerce, Lions/Lady Lions, Rotary, Kiwanis, Ministerial Association, The HomeGrown Project, Woodlake Unified School District, and Woodlake High School.
The committee selects the Man and Woman of the Year, Youth of the Year, Youth Mentor, Community Organization and Spirit of Woodlake awards. Business of the Year is selected by the Woodlake Valley Chamber of Commerce.

Winners will be announced before the annual event but will be awarded their plaques at the Awards Banquet held on Friday, March 8 at the Woodlake Veterans Memorial Building, 355 N. In all three communities, Mid Valley Disposal will continue the tradition started by Sunset Waste Systems, Inc. in honoring a local organization or business that has made the greatest effort to recycle. Mid Valley Disposal (formerly Sunset Waste Systems, Inc.), the trash hauler and recycler coordinator under contract with Exeter, Farmersville, Lindsay and Woodlake, presents the Recycler of the Year award in Exeter, Lindsay and Farmersville.
