Exeter man arrested in gang-related assault

VISALIA – An Exeter man was arrested last week for what police believe to be a gang-related assault.

The crime happened on Nov. 1 in the 3200 block of Lincoln Road on the outskirts of Visalia. At about 6 p.m., Tulare County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of an assault and found a 23-year-old Hispanic male suffering from a head wound.

The victim was transported by ambulance to Kaweah Delta Medical Center where he was treated for his injury.

The victim was able to identify his attacker as 20-year-old Micheal Orta of Exeter, someone that he knew. On Nov 2, detectives with the Sheriff’s gang unit arrested Orta at his home in the 200 block of South Orange Avenue. Orta was booked into the Tulare County Adult Pretrial Facility on charges of assault with a deadly weapon. In a released statement, detectives said they believe the assault to be gang motivated.

Anyone with information regarding gang or drug activity is encouraged to call the Tulare County gang hotline at 1-888-END-GANG (1-888-363-4264). Or information can be sent anonymously through our TIP now system by email at tcso@ tipnow.com. Or you can simply call or text 559-725-4194.
