Lindsay residents involved in fatal crash east of Sanger
Oakhurst resident killed, two others injured in two-car collision on Hwy 180 near Minkler, Calif.
SANGER – Three Lindsay residents escaped a two-car crash in eastern Fresno County without significant injuries but the same cannot be said of the people in the other car.
The crash happened at about 1 p.m. on Aug. 5 near Minkler, Calif. east of Sanger. A 2000 Toyota traveling northbound on Frankwood Avenue was stopped at the stop sign at the intersection of Highway 180. According to the California Highway Patrol, (CHP), the driver of the Toyota attempted to cross the highway when the front end of the car struck the driver’s side of a 1999 Jeep heading westbound on Highway 180. The Jeep went off the north end of the road where it overturned.
The driver of the Jeep, 66-year-old Kenneth Hockersmith of Oakhurst, Calif., was declared dead at the scene while his two passengers – Don Hockersmith, 62, of Chico, Calif. and Ronald Hockersmith, 62, of Peoria, Ariz. – were both taken to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno with moderate injuries.
The driver of the Toyota, 18-year-old Clara Moreno Lemus of Lindsay, was not arrested and alcohol or drugs do not appear to be a factor in the collision, according to the CHP. Neither Lemus nor her passengers – Juan Hernandez, 19, of Lindsay and Ricardo Hernandez, 12, of Lindsay – required medical treatment.
