Driver suffers minor injuries, collision closes down St. John’s Parkway for three hours
VISALIA – Police are unsure what caused a driver to crash his car into a tree in the center median, hit another car and then roll into an apartment building.
At around noon on Aug. 5, a silver 2003 Toyota Corolla was heading southbound on St. John’s Parkway when it hopped the center median and struck a tree north of Lark Avenue. The car then sideswiped a silver 2018 Toyota 4-Runner heading northbound on St. John’s Parkway. The impact overturned the Corolla which rolled onto a stairwell of an apartment complex in the 2700 block of N. St. John’s. The crash closed down the northbound lanes of the parkway for approximately three hours.
The driver of the Corolla, 22-year-old Jose Lupercio of Visalia, was transported to Kaweah Delta Medical Center in Visalia for minor injuries. The driver of the 4-Runner, 35-year-old Angelica Hawkes of Visalia, was not injured in the collision.
The Visalia Police Department’s Traffic Unit was called to investigate the collision. Alcohol and drugs do not appear to be a factor in the collision. The cause of the collision was still under investigation as of press time.
