Farmersville PD hosts Coffee with a Cop event from 6 to 9 a.m. on June 27 at Burgers & Donuts

FARMERSVILLE – Police officers are difficult to get to know. Normally they are in some sort of tussle, or they are too busy moving on to the next crisis. What is lost on most residents is that officers are community members just like anyone else.

The recent narrative of the national news paint police in a negative light. And while most realize that the scenarios they see are half told or isolated incidents, it does not diminish the fact that police have a tough job.

In an effort to show the community that police are more like the people they serve than the people they arrest Farmersville officers and community members will come together in an informal, neutral space to discuss community issues, build relationships, and drink coffee today. The Farmersville Police Department will host its next Coffee with a Cop from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. on Wednesday, June 27 at Burgers and Donuts, 502 N. Farmersville Blvd.

“There’s no hidden agendas just a chance to come and meet some of the men and women who are serving the City of Farmersville,” stated Sgt. Troy Evrett. “If you have questions please bring them, we would love to help. If you have concerns we would like to hear them and try to help with what we can.”

Coffee with a Cop provides a unique opportunity for community members to ask questions and learn more about the department’s work in Farmersville’s neighborhoods. The majority of contacts law enforcement has with the public happen during emergencies, or emotional situations. Those situations are not always the most effective times for relationship building with the community, and some community members may feel that officers are unapproachable on the street. Coffee with a Cop breaks down barriers and allows for a relaxed, one-on-one interaction.

Coffee with a Cop is a national initiative supported by The United States Department of Justice, Office of Community Oriented Policing Services. Similar events are being held across the country, as local police departments strive to make lasting connections with the communities they serve. The program aims to advance the practice of community policing through improving relationships between police officers and community members one cup of coffee at a time. The department will hold future Coffee with Cop events at various locations throughout the coming year. For additional information contact the Farmersville Police Department at 559-747-0321.
