Driver leads police on chase thru three towns
Porterville man ran thru power pole, into orange tree during pursuit between Visalia and Woodlake
VISALIA – A car thief led police on a chase taking out a power pole in Visalia and crashing into an orange grove in Woodlake.
At about 1 a.m. on June 4, a Visalia Police Department patrol officer attempted to stop a red Dodge pickup for suspected drinking and driving near Goshen and Lovers Lane when the driver, later identified as 34-year-old Zacory Hooks of Porterville, failed to stop for the officer’s emergency lights and siren.
During the pursuit, Hooks drove off the roadway striking and toppling a power pole near Houston Avenue and Sol Road in Visalia. Hooks then drove northeast through the town of Ivanhoe and then east through the city of Woodlake before crashing into an orange tree at the corner of Avenue 336 and Road 212.
Hooks was uninjured during the collision and was arrested without incident. During the investigation, officers discovered that the truck was an unreported stolen vehicle out of the Poplar area, west of Porterville. Hooks was booked into the Adult Pre-trial Facility on charges of auto theft, possession of stolen property, DUI, felony evading and hit and run.
Driver hit trying to help a stranded motorist
Another pedestrian was hit in Visalia last week. Raul Martinez, 62, pulled over on the Road 152 and was trying to cross Mineral King Avenue to aid a stranded motorist when he was struck by a car at 5:06 a.m. on June 3. The car, described as a dark sedan, fled the scene and was last seen heading westbound on Mineral King. The cause of the collision is still under investigation. Man arrested for DUI after crashing into home
A Visalia man sent himself to the hospital last week after he failed to make a right turn and crashed into a home at the southeast corner of Laurel and Locust. Visalia Police officers responded to the accident at about 5:08 p.m. on May 29 and found the driver, 58-year-old Lee Davis, was the only injured person in the crash. Davis was taken to Kaweah Delta Medical Center for his injuries. According to VPD, Davis was driving under the influence of alcohol when he attempted to make a eastbound turn from Locust onto Laurel. Davis was later arrested for DUI and an unrelated warrant.
