Gail Zurek earns status as Accredited Chamber Executive by the Western Association of Chamber Executives
VISALIA – The CEO of the Visalia Chamber of Commerce joined an exclusive club of her peers this month.
Visalia Chamber President/CEO Gail Zurek was recognized as an Accredited Chamber Executive (ACE) by the Western Association of Chamber Executives (WACE). The designation is awarded to only those chamber executives and staff professionals who meet stringent criteria set by the association’s board of directors. Zurek was the only chamber of commerce executive awarded accreditation this year at the association’s annual conference in Henderson, Nev. earlier this month.
The criteria includes successfully passing the “ACE Test,” serving as a chamber CEO for five years or more, and being a member in good standing of WACE for at least two years including attendance at WACE meetings, webinars, trainings and conferences. During their time as CEO, the applicant’s chamber should have published a business plan or annual report, been audited by an independent company, have a personnel manual, and had its bylaws thoroughly reviewed within the last 10 years.
The accreditation program was first awarded in 1993 to encourage chamber executives to upgrade and expand their skills through continuing education and training programs in the chamber management and business fields. Recipients of the Accredited Chamber Executive (ACE) must apply for re-accreditation every five years in order to retain the designation.
There are only 21 ACE recipients active in chambers of commerce in WACE, an association of approximately 825 chamber executives and staff professionals with members in 19 Western states and Canada. The association’s mission is to promote and enhance the professional development of chamber of commerce executives. WACE is the largest state or regional association of chamber of commerce executives in the United States.
The Visalia Chamber of Commerce serves as the “voice of business” and provides strategic leadership and engagement in building the future of business and the community through information, services and advocacy to the employers of our community.
