More than 50 children get free computers from Tulare County
Computers were donated by the County of Tulare, refurbished with funding from the local Rotary Clubs
TULARE COUNTY – Christmas came early for more than 50 children after they received a free computer just before winter break.
Tulare County staff, Rotarians and other volunteers met at the Tulare County Surplus Store on Dec. 13 to load up vehicles with the computers and begin delivering the computers to school sites throughout the County.
The recipients were nominated by school officials based on their outstanding character and good citizenship, but the students and most of their teachers were unaware the gifts would be delivered in time for the holidays.
The County of Tulare contributed 56 computers and matching flat screens that were due to be sold as surplus.
Local Rotary Clubs donated funding so that the surplus computers could be given away to worthy children. Tulare County Purchasing tested the computers, erased all sensitive files and proprietary software, and installed fresh Windows operating systems.
