EXETER – The Exeter Chili Cook Off has been a mainstay in autumn events around town for nearly two decades. But this year will be slightly different.

This Saturday, Nov. 11 cook off will be the 18th in a row, but it will be held by the new Stag Saloon owners Diane and Bob Spence. Like other years there will be winners, losers, beer and live music from noon to 4 p.m., but they will also have an announcement and small prayer for recently passed away former owner Charlotte Correia.

“We plan on doing [the Chili Cook Off] because it was something that Charlotte always did,” said Stag manager Linda Guy. “We also plan on holding a [separate] celebration of life event for her too.”

Guy said that Correia passed away two weeks ago on Sunday, Oct. 29. And while this is the first cook off without her, it won’t be the last. Guy says that the new owners plan on doing the Chili Cook Off well into the future unless something stops them.

The cook off starts at 10 a.m. this Saturday, and winners will be announced that afternoon. Anyone who needs additional information is welcomed to call the Stag at 559-592-7177.
