Gang member caught with 3 guns and 3 grams of meth
Joseph Cruz Nunez of Visalia had illegal handguns, 3.3 grams of methamphetamine in apartment
VISALIA – A known gang member is off the streets following an arrest last week.
At 11:15 a.m. on Nov. 3, officers with the Visalia Police Department’s Special Enforcement Unit (SEU) served a narcotics search warrant at an apartment in the 700 block of N. Bridge in Visalia. The tenant, 33-year-old Joseph Cruz Nunez, is an active, documented North Side Varrio Locos gang member. During a search of his apartment officers found three handguns with high capacity magazines and ammunition. Two of the handguns had the serial numbers filed off. They also found 3.3 grams of methamphetamine and sales indicia. Nunez, a convicted felon, was arrested without incident in the apartment and booked at the Tulare County Jail for several firearm and narcotics related felonies.

Saturday, Nov. 4
At 9:05 a.m. in the area of Houston and Dinuba, regarding a male holding an unknown object which appeared to be a firearm. The victim stated that 24-year-old Darrell Allen approached her in a parking lot and demanded the keys to her vehicle or he would shoot her. The victim was able to drive away and contact police. When officers found Allen in the area, it was discovered that he did not have a firearm. Allen was arrested and booked for attempted carjacking.
Friday, Nov. 3
At 11:02 p.m. in the 1300 block of N. Park, in regards to a subject firing a handgun in the backyard of a residence. Upon arrival, officers contacted 45-year-old Jose Placencia-Ayala, who was identified by witnesses as firing multiple rounds from a handgun in the backyard. During a search of the residence, officers located the handgun used in the shooting. In addition, officers located 11 grams of methamphetamine, ammunition, and drug paraphernalia. Placencia-Ayala was arrested and was found to have an outstanding warrant for DUI while he was booked. No injuries or property damage were reported from the shooting.
Monday, Nov. 6
At 9:05 a.m. at Pick N Go, 1122 N. Ben Maddox, officers responded to an armed robbery that had just occurred. Officers arrived a few minutes later to find that the suspect, 60-year-old Samuel Robert Lopez, was being detained by a citizen who witnessed the crime. The knife Lopez used during this incident was recovered at the scene. The suspect was transported and booked at the Tulare County Pre-trial Facility for attempted robbery and on several other charges. No one was injured as a result of this incident.
