EXETER – Mineral King Publishing has been producing a newspaper for over a century and magazines for almost a decade but now they are working in one more medium into their portfolio: podcasting. Adding a series of podcasts to the Mineral King Podcasting Co. network, publisher Reggie Ellis, editor Paul Myers and sports reporter Patrick Dillon have all started a show they are a part of and people have responded.

The flagship podcast for the Sun-Gazette newspaper has been The Paper Trail Podcast. On Paper Trail Ellis and Myers walk listeners through national and state topics that are affecting rural areas, particularly in the Central Valley. As well, the two hosts critique the field of journalism by describing the tactics reporters, editors and businessmen use to cover stories. Guests like Tulare County District One Supervisor Kuyler Crocker and College of the Sequoia professor Stephen Tootle have been on the show to talk about water and most recently the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.

The Sportspeak Podcast on the other hand is specific to Tulare County sports. Dillon has made the podcast his own by bringing on local coaches and players from around the area to talk about their upcoming seasons and early season success or adversity. The show is a good way for Tulare County to get to know some of the players that making waves in high school sports and perhaps even give players a tool in their college recruitment process. Not to mention the podcast has a weekly rundown with notable game finals.

Right now the Sportspeak Podcast has episodes available with interviews with coaches like Strathmore head football coach Jeromy Blackwell. Dillon and Blackwell talk about Blackwell’s Strathmore Spartan team that made it all the way to the State championship in 2016 just to come up a field goal short of taking the whole thing.

One podcast with Mineral King Podcasting that has gained some fanfare is the F’nB podcast. Officially the Friends ‘n Beer podcast, hosts Paul Myers, Robert Perry and Reggie Ellis review the craft beers they can find around the Valley. Craft beer drinkers themselves they offer ratings from other reliable sources on line. Home brewers have also been guests on the show to talk about some of the things they have done to bring out the flavor in their brews and what they are getting ready keg themselves.

The F’nB podcast has recently surpassed 1,000 downloads and subscribership is growing. And as of tomorrow, Thursday, Sept. 14 the F’nB podcast will record their show on the road at the Planing Mill in Visalia. People looking for a good beer, some pizza and a place to watch the game while hosts banter back and forth can certainly find that at the Planing Mill in Visalia’s new craft brewery district.

Every podcast can be found on iTunes and Stitcher for Apple and Android users. Other places to subscribe can be found at papertrailpod.com, sportspeakpodcast.com and fnbpodcast.com.

Mineral King Podcasting hopes to partner with other podcasters by renting out the Mineral King Podcasting studio and adding the show to the company.
