EXETER – Exeter craft beer drinkers will soon be able to emerge from their homes and visit a bar that serves to their taste – in town. Since the craft beer craze has yielded hundreds of delectable brews, the Exeter bar scene has been barren with options. However, by the end of October those looking for a local craft beer only need to visit the Rock Yard Tavern.

Owned by Landon and Janie Wilcox, The Rock Yard Tavern hopes to provide a place for the community to relax and enjoy themselves over a refreshing local craft beer. The Wilcoxes’ hope is to put local craft brews on display while also keeping on tap well known favorites. As if that does not make them unique enough, they are open to inviting local restaurants into the business as well.
“We are hoping to have local restaurants cater occasionally or leave their menus available at the bar, so people can get food and bring it back. Possibly food trucks as well,” said Janie.

With their idea they hope they can break the mold by not just being a bar of craft beers but a place where families can also be together to relax and enjoy a meal.

“With the license that we are going for, we are hoping to allow children in as well. So if you are in downtown Exeter with your family and want to stop in for a beer, there are no restrictions,” said Landon.

“We are hoping to provide to a relaxed feel. Somewhere you can go and just have a beer,” Janie added.
Aiming for October, The Rock Yard Tavern will be located at 132 N. E Street in Exeter and will be family-owned and -operated.

Both born and raised in Exeter, the Wilcoxes have been bouncing the idea of a beer bar around for a while. As the Wilcoxes live a busy life, with Landon employed at Southern California Edison and Janie, a stay-at-home mother of three, what started as a family business idea, is about to become reality.

Hours will be Sunday-Thursday 11 a.m.-11 p.m. and Friday-Saturday 11 a.m.-1 a.m.
