woodlake – As the Woodlake Police Department actively strives to provide a safe environment throughout the city, they were graciously given a new addition to help enforce laws and community safety. Owner of Woodlake Hardware, as well as president and owner of Oral E. Micham, Inc., Ed Micham donated a brand new Hisun Utility Task Vehicle (UTV).
Woodlake has been good to me, so I am giving back,” said Micham. “Most of the time lately, the police forces have been put down nationwide and I feel someone needs to stand up and help police.”
The Hisun UTV valued at $8,500 will be put to good use. Not only will it be a cost-saving for the department, officers will be able to use in alley ways, tight locations and at events. With its convenient, easily maneuverable capability and 4×4, the UTV will be able to replace a police car at large events, the Botanical Gardens, Bravo Lake, high school and youth games and various activities around town.
small crowds, while also allowing for first responders like fire personnel to jump in the back with their equipment. As the Woodlake PD are supporters of the National Rifle Association (NRA), Woodlake Lion’s Club and non-profit organizations, the UTV will help with dinners and events.
“The gratitude from the police department and the city is tremendous,” expressed Woodlake Police Chief Mike Marquez. “We are very appreciative of Woodlake Hardware and Oral Micham. They have been good supports of not only the police department, but our city of Woodlake. They have done a tremendous amount of work in our area.”
When Chief Marquez received the phone call in regards to the donation he was shocked. He was unsure if there was a need for the vehicle and told Micham at the moment they didn’t need it. However, upon assessing within the department, Marquez’s mind was changed and he realized there would be many benefits for the UTV. Chief Marquez anticipates that the UTV will make its debut at the Woodlake Lions Rodeo after it is added with safety and police decals.
“I just wanted to show appreciation and support for our police department,” said Micham, owner of Woodlake Hardware for a year and a half and Woodlake resident since 1951.
This year, Woodlake Hardware will be celebrating it’s 100 year anniversary. Woodlake Hardware is located at 173 N. Valencia. For more info, call 559-564-3367.
