Tigers sit in first place in ESL play

The Woodlake Tigers (7-6) mauled the Granite Hills Grizzlies (1-5) 21-0 in an East Sequoia League match up on Thursday, April 4 in Woodlake.

The Tigers opened up the scoring in the bottom of the first inning when Zach Fesperman and Eddie Pena got back to back singles. Wesley Stevenson then walked to load the bases. Cade Headrick hit a ground ball, but hustled down the base line to beat out the double play, allowing the run to score from third.

The Tiger bats produced again in the bottom of the second when Spencer Jones got a single and the stole second base. Scotty Baker walked and Fesperman came up with another hit to score Jones. Eddie Pena, who was also pitching for the Tigers, helped his cause when he singled to score Baker. Jaykob Rodriguez then walked to load the bases and Wesley Stevenson singled to score one and a Grizzlies error allowed another run to score. Rodriguez was thrown out trying to take third on an over throw. The Tigers led 5-0.

Woodlake scored eleven runs in their half of the third inning on hits by Stevenson, Baker, Fesperman, Pena and Headrick. The Tigers were also helped out by seven Grizzlies errors in the inning. When the dust settled Woodlake led 16-0.

The Tigers scored five more runs in the fifth on hits by Rodriguez, Stevenson, Headrick, Joseph Ferreira, Fesperman and Pena to give the game its final score of 21-0.

Stevenson was 3 for 4 with 3 RBIs. Pena had six strikeouts and went 4 for 6 with an RBI. Fesperman went 3 for 5 with 2 RBI and 4 runs scored. Headrick was 3 for 5 with an RBI.
