Olea becomes an All-American
Exeter Union High School has its first All-American in Wrestling as Arnulfo Olea placed 5th in the Nation.
On April 6 Olea defeated State Champion and two time runner up JJ Johnson from South Carolina by a 4-3 decision. With the victory over Johnson, Olea would face another state champion. In the quarterfinals of the National championships it was Taylor French who is a three time state champion from Montana that would face Olea. Olea would defeat French with a 4-2 decision to advance into the semifinals and guarantee a finish in the top six which would make Olea an All-American.
In the semifinals, Olea would face another three time state champion this time it was Deshun Brown from New Mexico. Olea could not get the win as he fell to Brown.
On Sunday Olea would fall 4-2 in the consolation semifinals and found himself wrestling for 5th place.
In his last match as an Exeter Monarch, Olea would fall behind quickly 4-1 before finding a way to comeback and pin his opponent. It was Olea’s 165 victory of his career.
Wrestling at 106 pounds in his freshman year he went 39-4 and was in the top 12 in state. In his Sophomore year he gained nine pounds to wrestle at 115 pounds weight class. That year Olea went 41-7 and finished 4th in state.
Olea would finish in 8th place in state in both his Junior and Senior year. His Junior year he went 44-8 with a takedown ratio of 120-12. He would improve on his ration during his Senior year as he was 130-10 wrestling in the 122 weight class. This past season his overall record was 41-8.
