Exeter creates log jam in CSL standing
The Exeter Monarchs boy’s basketball team defeated the Selma Bears 49-30 on Thursday, Jan. 31 in Exeter. The win put the Monarchs in a four way tie for the Central Sequoia League lead with Dinuba, Central Valley Christian and Selma. The Monarchs opened up league with two straight losses, but have won their last four to put them in contention for a league title.
The Monarchs started the game slowly missing shots from the paint and found themselves down 9-3 before head coach Randy Reeder called a timeout. The Monarchs rallied back and took a 10-9 lead on a first quarter buzzer shot by Dominic Cascario.
The Monarchs turned the ball over with poor inbound passing and traveling violations and found themselves down 17-16 at the half.
The Monarchs opened up the third quarter with an 8-0 run and took a 24-17 lead. Selma then called a timeout, came out and hit a three pointer to make it 27-24. The Monarchs scored the last five points of the quarter giving them a 32-24 lead at the end of three periods.
The Monarchs outscored the Bears 17-6 in the fourth period giving the game its final score of 49-30.
For the Monarchs Eli Garver had 11 points, six rebounds, three assist and one steal. Jordan Bayne had 10 points, four rebounds and one assist. Caleb Harden had eight points, eight rebounds and two assist.
