The Farmersville High School Girls Basketball team had a record night on Dec. 1 against Alpaugh in the Corcoran Invitational as Farmersville defeats the Buffaloes 75-7.

The Lady Aztecs set school records against the Buffaloes in all offensive and most defensive categories including most points scored and fewest points allowed by an opponent.

Farmersville would use their full court defense and transition game to set the tone early in the game by scoring the first 14 points of the game.

But after jumping out to a 23-5 first quarter lead, the Lady Aztecs would hold the Buffaloes scoreless for both the second and third quarters.

Alpaugh would score two points in the fourth quarter to give them a total of seven points for the entire game.

During the scoreless drought for the Buffaloes, the Aztecs would go on a 56-0 run.

In this game the Lady Aztecs were led by Cristina Diaz who had 22 points and 4 steals, while Jasmine Gomez had 17 points, 6 steals.

Farmersville protected the basketball against Alpaugh by only turning the ball over seven times, but the same could not be said for Alpaugh.

With Diaz and Gomez already having 10 steals combined, Carmen Herrera would go on to get 12 steals of her own along with her 10 points she scored.

Kathy Mellado would get 5 steals but were Mellado came up big was on rebounds. Mellado would have 12 rebounds to go with her 8 points.

In Farmersville’s first two games of the season the Lady Aztecs have scored 70 points while giving up 142 points in their first two loses.

But since those first two loses the Lady Aztecs have scored 116 points while only giving up 37 points.

The Lady Aztecs are now 2-2 on the early season and are on a two game winning streak and will be back on their home court on Tuesday, Dec. 11 against Woodlake. Tipoff is set for 6:30 p.m.
