Feeling At Home

With more than 300 attendees the Exeter Woman’s Club celebrated its second Christmas Home Tour on Dec. 6. EWC President & Event Co-Chair Rosemary Hellwig reported that early the next morning one homeowner, Michele Gann, called to express her “delight in being a part of the tour” and thanked the Woman’s Club.

Hellwig recounted another story from a woman she met at the home of Amy and Kevin Moore. “Last night when I removed the sign from the Moores I found them in their garage where they introduced me to their last guest.” Hellwig said a woman from Fresno had come to Exeter to visit her old friends (Sid Schelling, owner of Exeter Mercantile Co., and Sally Brewer, owner of Exeter Flower Co.). While in town, Rosemary’s brother, Dr. Terry Miller saw her downtown and sent her over. She told the Moore’s and Hellwig her parents had just moved into the home when it was built in 1941 and that she was born in 1942 and raised most of her life in the Moore home!

“Our homeowners were over the top amazing and appreciative of all of the EWC volunteers, of which there were nearly 100,” Hellwig said.

Event Co-chair, Sara DeJager, who manned the Exeter Woman’s Club Building at 201 Kaweah Ave., was extremely happy with the amount of people who attended and took time to stay awhile at the Club House, and avail themselves to refreshments provided by the EWC membership and Christmas music. DeJager also thanked the Exeter Union High School Choir for caroling on the hay wagon between three homes in town and the Exeter Police Explorers who provided traffic control at the Stillwell home at Marinette and Spruce.

Plans are being made for another Christmas Home Tour next season and suggestions of any kind are welcome. For information on the Christmas Home Tour or the Woman’s Club visit www.exeterwomansclub.com .
