Tulare County Symphony goes on set

The Tulare County Symphony performs popular pieces by two composers at its concert on Saturday, Nov. 17 at 7:30 p.m. “The New World” Symphony by Dvorak has two well-known themes. There is the “Three Blind Mice” theme and the “Going Home” theme that was later the inspiration for the spiritual of that name.

Guest pianist Andrew Tyson will perform Rachmaninoff’s best known concerto, “Piano Concerto #2,” which was used in Billy Wilder’s 1955 film, “The Seven Year Itch” and is prominent in Clint Eastwood’s 2010 film, “Hereafter.”

Tickets for the “New & Old World Mash-Up” are $30 to $39.50 at the Symphony office, 732-8600. Student prices are $10. Tickets are also available at www.gorillatix.com.

Come early at 6:45 to hear Music Director Bruce Kiesling give fascinating behind-the-scenes information about the music. Reception will be immediately following the concert at Cafe 225, located at 225 W. Main St. in Visalia.
