VISALIA – As a parent bringing their child to see the doctor is a nerve wracking experience. The medical jargon can be a bit confusing and it appears at times that doctors do not relate to your struggles. But the Visalia Medical Clinic has added a pediatric nurse practitioner to their pediatric team who understands issues from the doctor and patient’s perspective.

Nance-Chastain notes that as the mother to four children, she can relate to parents and understands the issues that can come with raising children.

“I know what it’s like to be the mom of a picky eater or a child that won’t sleep through the night. I understand the struggles they face and it’s a blessing to see those struggles from both sides. I’m excited to be a part of a team effort!”

Better yet, as Nance-Chastain puts it, she has always had an affinity toward treating children.

“Kids are my thing,” says Nance-Chastain, PNP. “I’ve always loved kids and in nursing school, I knew I wanted to be a pediatric nurse. As a pediatric nurse practitioner, I only see children, and at VMC I have the privilege of working with a great team of pediatricians.”

Nance-Chastain earned a master of science degree in nursing, primary care nurse practitioner, and completed her bachelor of science in nursing studies at Fresno State University. She served as a registered nurse at Valley Children’s Hospital for eight years, followed by several years at Alta Family Health Clinic and Adventist Health Medical Office as a Board-certified pediatric nurse practitioner.
