Family Health Care Network receives Healthy Worksite Award

Supervisor Amy Shuklian presents award from the Lifetime of Wellness Program, Health Advisory Committee

@TheSunGazette

VISALIA – Supervisor Amy Shuklian, chair of the Tulare County Health Advisory Committee, presented Family Health Care Network with two Healthy Worksite Awards for 2018 for its gold-level policies: eliminating smoking from all of its campuses and implementing healthy meetings, which excludes sugary beverages from meetings and instead makes healthy edible options available.

The Healthy Worksite Award initiative recognizes companies for efforts to create healthier environments for employees. A project of the Tulare County Health & Human Services Agency Public Health Branch’s Lifetime of Wellness program and the Health Advisory Committee, this annual effort encourages businesses to make the healthy choice the easiest choice for their employees.

Awards are organized into five categories: Healthy Beverages; Health Food at Work; Physical Activity; Tobacco-Free; and Breastfeeding Accommodation. Companies that have implemented policies in these areas are invited to submit an application to have their policies evaluated alongside healthy worksite best practices. There are three levels of recognition for most policies: gold, silver, and bronze.

Becoming a Healthy Worksite can result in increased health for employees and health care savings. Companies interested in implementing new policies or expanding current ones to meet best practices are invited to contact Tulare County Public Health for a toolkit with sample policies.

The Healthy Worksite initiative is an opportunity for local businesses to focus on improving the health and well-being of their employees, clients, patrons, and the community.
