Harmony Magnet Academy English teacher is nominated for national honor in making a difference in students’ lives
STRATHMORE – Harmony Management Academy associated student body director and English teacher Angelina Contreras has been nominated for the 2017-2018 national LifeChanger of the Year award.
Sponsored by the National Life Group Foundation, LifeChanger of the Year recognizes and rewards the very best K-12 educators and school district employees across the United States who are making a difference in the lives of students by exemplifying excellence, positive influence and leadership.
Contreras was nominated by her principal, Jeffery Brown, for shaping and encouraging positive student behavior. She is a relentless organizer of school-related functions through her ASB group and the 13 clubs on campus. She has fostered a deep sense of community responsibility through campus events and volunteer work.
Some of the activities Contreras coordinates include Back to School night, the Back to School dance, assemblies, Club Rush day, sports rallies, Homecoming week, Harvest Festival, Winter and Spring formals, and senior brunch. She also works directly with students, supporting Toys for Tots, local and regional food banks, and Pennies for Patients. For the second year in a row, she was selected to be the supporting teacher of a Harmony student who was chosen to receive Kevin McCarthy’s 23rd Congressional District of California Merit Award.
“Ms. Contreras is a LifeChanger,” Brown said. “She has my highest confidence and praise for the work she does. Her continued commitment and dedication for our students is an example for all to follow.”
Each school year, LifeChanger of the Year receives hundreds of nominations from all 50 states and the District of Columbia. Seventeen individual LifeChanger of the Year awards will be given during the 2017-2018 school year.
