tulare county – If you are looking for something for the kids to do this summer besides just sit in their rooms and play video games all day long, then why not check out the Step Up program’s Summer Night Lights (SNL). There will be designated days for certain activities in Exeter, Lindsay, Woodlake and Strathmore. And all activities are free to attend.
The Exeter activities will not begin until July 6 and all the events are scheduled from 6 to 9 p.m. On that date the Step-up program will be providing a pool party at the Exeter Union High School (EUHS) pool. Then on July 13 the Step-up program will be at the Exeter Boys and Girls club for a fun day of games and activities. On July 20, they will be back at the EUHS pool and will concluded the summer of fun on July 27 back at the Exeter Boys and Girls Club. The Lindsay activities started on June 22 with a movie night at City Park. On June 28 and on July 12, the Step-up program will be at the Lindsay Wellness Center from 8 to 10 p.m. for a swim night. No food will be provided. Then on June 29, they will be at McDermont Field House from 6 to 9 p.m. The second movie in the park will be July 20 from 6 to 9 p.m. and will happen at City Park. Then on July 27, Aug. 3 and Aug. 10 SNL will return to McDermont Field House from 6 to 9 p.m. For more information please call 559-562-3326.
The Woodlake SNL has already begun but still has a lot of activities still planned. On June 9, 16 and 23 SNL meet at the Woodlake High School (WHS) Pool for Under the Sea, Battle of the Badges and Lying in the Sun. Then on June 14 and 21 SNL meet for Splash With Us at the WHS pool. Splash With Us will take place two more times on June 28 and July 5. There is no charge and swimming is open from 6 to 9 p.m. On June 30, SNL will be at the WHS pool for Fun in the Sun beginning at 6 p.m. Then on July 3, SNL will be out at Miller Brown Park for the July 3 Blast. The summer will cap off with a July 7 Last Summer Splash at the WHS pool beginning at 6 p.m.
There will be grilled hot dogs, chips and water for the kids to eat. As well as raffle prize that the kids can enter to a prize that can be a gift certificate or backpacks filled with school supplies.
“This program does a amazing job to provide a safe area for kids,” said Irene Zacarias. “We also really appreciate the service groups that come out and come together.”

The Strathmore Boys and Girls Club is partnering with the Tulare County Sheriff Department in order to put on its SNL activities. The activities will be held at the Strathmore Boys and Girls Club from 6 to 9 p.m. The activities began on June 23 and are scheduled to continue on June 30, July 14, and July 21. On June 20, The Tulare County board of Supervisors voted to approve the funding of $80,000 for the local youth programs. The Step Up Youth Activities grant awards for 2017-18 include Self Help Enterprises, ACT for Women and Girls, Tulare County Symphony League, Christ Lutheran Church CLIP Arts Program, and Big Brothers and Big Sisters as well as others.
These awards were necessary to meet the social needs of the area of Tulare County in the areas of education, health and welfare.
