Athletes pick up on Rocky Hill

No matter what type of outdoor exercise you enjoy, Rocky Hill east of Exeter is a popular training ground for people of all ages throughout Tulare County. It’s challenging, grading yet also scenic and at times serene. About the only thing that can ruin a run or ride up Rocky Hill is the unsightly trash riddling the roadside.

One local group of athletes has made it their mission to try and keep the country training course clean. Rocky Hill Triathlon Race Director Charles Duby organized a trash pickup along Rocky Hill Drive on June 27. This is the second time this year the group has held a pickup day because it is where they enjoy doing regular work outs and the namesake of their triathlon held annually in March in Exeter.

While the morning was a hot one, it was still very rewarding for the group to be able to contribute to the care of Rocky Hill. Duby was joined by 13 friends of the Rocky Hill Triathlon ranging in age from 3 to 60. The shocking part of the day was that David Nielsen loaded 25 bags of trash in his truck and there was still plenty more trash to find.

Rocky Hill Triathlon’s Board would like to encourage the community to take care of this hill. Please do your part to help keep it clean by encouraging others to not abuse the hill. They’d also encourage other clubs or groups to organize a trash pickup day. Exeter is lucky to have this hill in their backyard and folks near and far come to enjoy it.

The mission of the Rocky Hill Triathlon Board is to hold a local Triathlon in Exeter to benefit the Kiwanis Foundation, which has the mission to support children in our community. Rocky Hill Triathlon had their first Olympic and Sprint Triathlon on March 15, 2015. They have their second event scheduled for March 6, 2016. This year’s event raised $28,000 with contributions from the following sponsors: Joellen Wilson, Frances, James, & Jeffery Wilson, Sequoia Orange, Nielsen & Associates Insurance, Leffingwell Ag, Second Generation, LLC, Umina Brothers, Calpine Containers, Maxco Packaging, Pace, McDonalds, Mineral King Produce, Bastrire Edwards, Visalia First, KRC Safety, Decco, and Kaweah Delta Healthcare. The Rocky Hill Board is made up of the following: Charles Duby, Sequoia Orange Race Director, David Nielsen, Nielsen Insurance, Jamie Wilson, Sequoia Orange, Rachel Duby, Visalia Schools, Melanie White, Hellwig Products, Brady Johnston, Sundale Vineyards, Josh Hickey, AT&T, Kevin Martin, Maxco Packaging, and AJ Reid, Sequoia Orange.
