Watch out for card skimming scam

@TheSunGazette

tulare county — The Tulare County Sheriff’s Office received reports of credit and debit card skimming machines at two gas stations in southern Tulare County. The Sheriff’s Department would like residents to be vigilant to avoid becoming a victim.

To prevent cards from possible fraud, there are a few steps to follow. First, only use ATMs you are familiar with. This can alert you if you notice any subtle difference the next time you go to swipe your card. This is especially important at gas stations. If you notice a broken seal on the security tape located on the front of a gas pump, do not use it and immediately contact the store owner and sheriff’s office.

Next, use indoor ATMs and try to avoid using outdoor ones. Also, make sure you keep a watchful eye on your card whether its handed to a gas station attendant or employee of a business. Finally, be observant a and visual. Frequently check your bank account and credit card statement to ensure they balance.

While the devices have been removed, the investigation is still ongoing. Anyone with information should call the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office at 559-733-6218.
