Cracking with color

Kids are anxiously awaiting a visit from their favorite Easter Bunny, but part of the Easter tradtion is dyeing eggs. However, with a trip over to Oscars Hay & Feed there might not be a need at all.

The Farmersville store is currently filling its cages with a variety of chicks including a spring sensation – Easter Eggers (also known as Americaunas). For families and farmers bringing home these unique hybrid chicks, there is no need to dye the eggs at Easter.

“Our staff gives the store a family feel,” said Manager Tami Lea. “We have supportive representatives.”

The store is receiving new arrivals of chicks and other small animals each week and will continue to stock them through November.

“We have ordered 30 breeds of chicks, several breeds of ducks, geese, guinea hens…which people like because they kill rattlesnakes. We have chickens that lay chocolate eggs, brown eggs, the Easter Eggers with blue eggs. We offer breeds that are new and rare and traditional chickens like Rhode Island Reds,” Lea said. The store keeps the price of chicks at $2.99-$6.99 and bunnies are just $10. Baby goats will sell for around $25.

For families with students in 4-H and FFA, the Oscar’s Hay & Feed proudly offers 10% discounts on all items. The store uniquely offers a variety of show supplements and supply livestock this time of year.

“We also have a great selection of good quality hay,” Lea said. “We have Orchard Grass Hay and we do our own trucking.”

The store has a variety of other supplies including small animal food from economy to high end, including dog food; retail items like clothing and hats, Equine Feed, animal bedding and more.

Have questions about these supplies? Need to order something unique? Just getting started? The staff is easily accessible onsite as well as online. The store’s Facebook page lets customers know when new orders are arriving and what breeds of chicks are available daily.
