‘Go To Visalia,’ on your phone
Have you ever been driving around on a Friday or Saturday night and wonder, “What’s going on tonight?” or ask a friend or spouse, “What do you want to do tonight?”
There are plenty of apps that can tell you movie times, where to eat and the easiest way to get there, but nothing that tells you about the events and activities going on in your own back yard.
Well now there’s an app for that.
Shannon Lovering, owner of The Lovering Co. in Visalia, has launched a free app called Go To Visalia. Lovering said the app attempts to eliminate the problem of going to multiple sources of information for things happening in Visalia. In addition to events, Go To Visalia offers local news, sports, movie times, coupons and businesses searches.
“More than 80% of people own some kind of smartphone, so when you are driving around you can see what’s going on around you,” he said. “We are constantly updating as much information as possible for the Visalia area.”
Lovering started working on the app in September and has now launched it for use. He said it is perfect for people searching for anything Visalia, or a quick reference for people visiting Visalia during the holidays, on their way to Sequoia National Park or returning to the area. The Go To Visalia app is just one of thousands of similar apps created for cities across the nation at www.UScity.mobi. Lovering said he hopes the success of Go To Visalia will lead to similar apps for Tulare, Exeter, Porterville and Hanford. Advertising on his site is available beginning at $125 per year, or a little more than $10 per month.
“The idea is to sell advertising on the site and have businesses sponsor links, like a dealership for auto sales or a threater for movie times,” Lovering said.
